 Situated near Alessandria on the hills of the upper Bormida valley, Acqui Terme was famous and popular for the beneficial properties of its springs at the time of the Romans who regarded its waters as amongst the best in the whole Empire. Over the centuries, this little town in Piedmont has maintained the position of excellence it has earned amongst hydros in Italy and was particularly popular during the “Belle Époque”.
The sulphurous water contains chloride, bromide and sodium iodide and bubbles to the surface at different temperatures – from 75°C at the “Bollente”, in the centre of Acqui and the town’s symbol, to 19°C at the “Acqua Marcia” – from various sources in the town and from about forty springs that flow into the Lake of the Old Spas.
The spa complex has two separate areas, one in the centre (called the “New Spas” and the other on the other side of the Bormida River (called the “Old Spas”). The spa treatments provided are particularly indicated for rheumatic and respiratory problems, conditions affecting the cardiovascular system, and dermatological and osteoarticular disorders.
The spa in the centre also offers beauty treatments.
